In the Corporate world, ReOrg is very common, it happens in every 3-6 months. Today I
decided to reorg "The Life of Flying", want to give her a new look. While reorganizing the blog, I was reading through all the old posts I had in the last 4 years, it brings back all the memories, crafters I met and all the items I had made/met. All are sweet memories :) I'm glad that I recorded all them in the blog. THANK YOU to all the people who supportted me, encouraged me and gave me the opportunities.

福袋 (‘Fu Dai’)

Chinese New Year is around the corner, 5 more weeks. Guess everyone is busy with the preparation. Another Big Celebration

Would like to introduce this simple and back to the basic designed Tote bag – 福袋 (‘Fu Dai’)
The main is the Chinese character at the center – 福 means Good Luck (pronounce as ‘fu’). As you can see, the character is being sewn upside-down, means 福到 (Good Luck came). This is the wonderful of Chinese character.
The bag is made with unbleached cotton and I sew the edge with red thread, this helps to brighten the whole bag. It can be used to carry the mandarin oranges which you bring to visit your relatives during Chinese New Year (CNY). It also brings a very good meaning – you are bringing Gold (mandarin oranges) and Good Luck (福袋 – the bag) to your relatives and friends. Good stuff need to share with everyone.

I have started the Soap Making since Sept. Still not "finding" time to post the progress. But I would like to say it is a true fun. I started to sell some of the soap at LPSM yesterday and the respond was very good. I have made 2 kinds of soap - Goat Milk and Carrot. I think I will continue with Goat Milk, as it is really a good soap. Still working on the nice packaging and photos.

Good bye to my machine, she has accompanied me for 3 years (July 2006), she had sewn many many bags (lost count). She is still in excellence condition, I sold her to a friend and I want to get an upgraded machine. I missed her.

I have been slowing down a lot in my handmade since Feb. I usually juggle my weekend between Handmade and Yoga. In the last 2 months I was tied up with series of Yoga activities, from Kids yoga workshop to Twee Merrigan workshop then follow by 2 TPCs, at the same time making progress to recover from the detox. I wish I could have more time for my handmade and yoga. Looking forward to the day :)

Few months back, I attended a gathering where I saw a lady carry Charlotte. I was so happy, this is the first time I met my product after they were sold. Charlotte looks so special and pretty among the bags that other ladies carry. I did not introduce myself to this lady as it is not important, I can see that she likes the bag so much. This is the satisfaction for handmade.

I was so happy when I found this parcel at my doorstep today. After long waiting for 6 weeks, it finally arrived. I even started to pray for it since last week.

Christa is so thoughtful, she has put the fabric in the zip lock bag so that it won't get dirty/wet. Yesterday was raining heavily and the fabric was well protected :) She also have a short note for me as the first order was not arrived. Thank you Christa.

These are the 3 pieces of Amy Butler fabric I have ordered. I have been longing for AB fabric all this while and now I finally have them :) Will use them wisely. a blouse? a bag? a pouch? ....... so many things I can make. They will keep me busy for a while.

Completed 1.5 yarns, there are 2.5 yarns to go. In fact the progress should be faster but I keep on redoing it. This is the 3^rd trial. Why? As the first timer knit with 2 “sticks”, I made a lot of mistake, either mis-count or the knit is too tight or too loose. Not satisfy, redo, I even start to think on different design … but I know this is a challenge, it gives me a lesson on “Persistent” , I need finish this one before start to think on other and stay focus.

I read an article in Yoga Journal, knitting is a good meditation where you will pay full attention to the work and mind does not wonder around. Train your mind to be more focus and relax, get rid of all the worries and nonsense. I totally agreed.

It has been a while since my last update. I have slow down my pace a lot recently. It has came to December, the last month for the year. There are a lot to think, a lot to reflect and a lot to plan.
Still I manage to complete with these which I am very proud of ...

Yoga mat bag with very retro style fabic design. It is a very strong canvas. I found this fabric in early of this year (January I think). I like the color very much, it is bright and will cheer up your day, your yoga practice. Decided to called it "SunShine", would like to own one? check out at Flying

Vanilla is my first shoulder bag. It is made by a very nice and soft canvas. The inner lining is my another favorite Japanese cotton. Adorable.

Another Hobo bag but it is in Ivory this time, very bright and clean combination (Ivory + Apple Green), go green concept. I have added the handmade flower to match the inner lining fabric, it is a broach where you may remove it from the bag and put it on your dress.

I bought a big packet of buttons from Bangkok last year, I will make any design as when the idea come. I decided to called this tote bag "NiuNiu", Niu means button in Chinese. I have noticed this shop, Rose Garden for quite some time ago. I finally pay a visit to Rose Garden yesterday. It does not dissapoint me, it has a lot of lovely and good stuff, vintage and Victorian style, I love everything in the store from the cabinet to the phone, the clock, the door bell, the quilt .... you name it. I bought 2 stuffs and left the shop happily, I make a note that I will go back again :)

I have came across this handicraft called Tatting almost 2 years ago. I love it very much, have been searching through the web for tatting resources. I couldn't find any tatting books in the bookstore where I live. During my last trip to US, I have been asking around also no luck. The key tool is the shuttle.

After a year of craving, last week I decided to DIY my own shuttle, and follow the instruction from the web. Here is my first tatting butterfly. Not perfect but it is almost there ;)

I notice that everyone at Esty has a very nice banner for their shops. I also came across a few shops who will help you to design your banner. Since we are the DIY lover, I decided to create it myself and it took me quite a while to come out with my first banner. A lot of trial and errors. Here I share with you the last 2 successful banners I had created. of course the one I'm putting it up at the shop is the most satisfied version and I'll keep on designing more.

Finally, I manage to create the banner for my shop! That's what we called satisfaction! :)

Balancing Dragonfly. Found this interesting "toy" during my vacation. Just let the tip of the mouth stop on any flat surface and it won't fall down, it is an art. From my research through internet, it is called Tonbo, hand-made by Japanese Artisans at the base of Mt Fuji, Japan.

Good for decoration especially for Christmas tree, plants or monitor. I have bought quite a number of them, feel free to leave me a meesage if you were interested to have some of them. I sell it at very cheap price.

Finally the Autocity New Year Countdown event is over. I was exhuasted. The business was good and I have ran out of most of my material and stocks. I need to unlist some of the sold out items from Etsy, but the website is so slow, I am not able to login to my account. I'm not sure if this is due to the earthquake in Taiwan which has cut down some of the network. If any of you have ordered something which I had ran out of material, I'm so sorry that I have to cancel your order because some of the material I bought from oversea and I can't reorder them. After the Oct Sunday Market, I also participate in the craft market at Lion Club Internation Convention. On the second day (which was held at PISA) there were hundreds over buses and thousands of people there. Business was good :)

I'm so happy to find these 2 magazines at MPH last week. By reading the magazine, I found new ideas, they have also introduce me to many many new blogs (all are handicraft lover). There are some pattens that I like at Cotton Friend but I only have time to try it out after Sept'06.

I have over estimated my capability, I thought I can make 3-4 tote bags a night (8pm-10:30pm : that is my handicraft time) and it end up I only manage to cut the fabric with real simple design (3 bags). I will try to sew them tonight, hopefully my sewing machine will co-orporate with me (it has been giving me some problem recently and I have no idea what's wrong with it).

Too bad I'm going to miss this month Sunday Market. I will not be physically there but I product will still be because my sister will continue without me. Good! so I have to quickly complete some new product within this week. I plan to do 3 small tote bag, 2 keychain & 3 crochet mini basket. I will post the photos once they are ready.

Here are my zakka books, I feel happy when I flip through these books , even though I had read them for many many times and I just love them :) I will continue to buy. I am also looking for magazine such as Cotton Time, Cotton&Paint and etc ... too bad I could not find them in Penang, might need to get help from friends in KL (SOGO or Kinokuniya).

In fact I need time to craft the stuff that I like, not making jewelry most of the time. On the other hand, I need $ to sustain my interest. Dilemma huh!

Especially custom order, I found those are not what I "want" to do, because they are not my design, I need a balance here.

I'm not going to participate in the next Sunday Market (9/24) because I am not around. I hope I can have some changes in term of my product line in the Oct Sunday Market.

It has been quite a while since my last update but no update doesn't mean that I am not crafting ;p I have completed one shoulder bag, two cosmetic bags (sold one), 2 tissue holders (sold one) and of cause a number of new earrings and rings :) No photo has been taken yet, will try to do it this weekend. My camera has sent in for service will need to borrow my hubby's camera.
Oh ya! I have also finished my first Amigurumi and her name is Lola.

I was busy with custom made order over the weekend and did not have time to do new stuff... I have bought some new frabic (silky type), I plan to do bags. I will definitely need to spare some time for bags this week.

New earrings, they are being reserved. I will still post it to my shop for anyone who will be interested in this design.
