I have came across this handicraft called Tatting almost 2 years ago. I love it very much, have been searching through the web for tatting resources. I couldn't find any tatting books in the bookstore where I live. During my last trip to US, I have been asking around also no luck. The key tool is the shuttle.

After a year of craving, last week I decided to DIY my own shuttle, and follow the instruction from the web. Here is my first tatting butterfly. Not perfect but it is almost there ;)

Yay!!! Another tatter! Your butterfly looks great! Come on over to eTatters if you want to "meet" other tatters and see some of their works. Very nice group of people and it's free to join! Here's the link

If you are looking for more online patterns I have a list of some pattern links and resources at my blog, come on over and feel free to look around.

P.S. Your shuttle is cool, you made that yourself? Where did you get the instructions on the web?

There are tatting demos and information on my web site

I am amazed that you were so successful with your homemade shuttle. There are lost of inexpensive shuttles available online at Handy Hands
http://www.hhtatting.com/
in the US and at Roseground Supply
http://www.roseground.com/
in Britain. I'm sure there are suppliers elsewhere, but I'm not sure where you are to direct you to them.
There is a very large online community of tatters and one of the most active email lists is Here-Be-Tatters which is a YaHoo group which can be found here:

Hi Tattingchic, yes, I made the shuttle myself with some cardboard. ;p

My friend, Verito, made her own shuttles from cardboard, too. She also has a blog and has her cardboard shuttles pictures. I think it's so resourceful. Here's the link to her blog if you want to check it out.
